Zespół Artrosis pochodzi z Zielonej Góry, gdzie powstał w marcu 1995. Początkowo szukając swego brzmienia opierał się na ciężkich rifach gitarowych, jednakże od początku nie była to muzyka typowo rockowa czy metalowa. Przywiązując dużą uwagę do instrumentów klawiszowych i z charakterystyczną elektroniczną perkusją, Artrosis najbardziej identyfikował się z nurtem gotyckim.

Gdy w 1996 roku zespół zadebiutował na największej polskiej imprezie muzyki niezależnej Castle Party nikt nie miał wątpliwości, że Sztuka Róż już wkrótce odegra znaczącą rolę na tej scenie. Choć dla Artrosis był to pierwszy duży koncert entuzjastyczne przyjęcie okazało się dobrą wróżbą na przyszłość. Z czasem ich muzyka nabierała mocy i ewoluowała w stronę metalu gotyckiego, by w roku 1997 eksplodować świeżością i charyzmą.

Tak narodził się „Ukryty Wymiar” – debiutancki album Artrosis. Wszelkie znaki na niebie, ziemi jak też rozdarta kurtyna świątyni subtelnych serc z hukiem zapada w nicość pod sromotnym uderzeniem, absolutnie przepięknej muzyki Artrosis – tak pochlebnych recenzji nie zbiera przeciętna płyta. Czarowi muzyki nie oparł się również sam Tilo Wolff – lider kultowej gotyckiej formacji Lacrimosa i właściciel firmy Hall Of Sermon – który zdecydował się na wydanie krążka „Ukryty Wymiar” poza granicami Polski. W styczniu 1998 pod nazwą „Hidden Dimension” debiut Artrosis pojawił się w sklepach na całym świecie.

Dokładnie rok po debiucie, w listopadzie 1998 ukazało się kolejne dzieło Artrosis – „W Imię Nocy”. Ciężki, lecz spokojny i klimatyczny album ukazał inne oblicze zespołu. Artrosis udowodnił, że nie jest grupą opierającą się na autoplagiacie. Wręcz przeciwnie, artyści otwarci na nowe trendy ciągle poszukują nowego brzmienia.

Rok 1999 ma dla Artrosis szczególne znaczenie. W tym roku grupa po raz pierwszy zagrała na największym polskim festiwalu metalowym – Metalmania. Ponadto zespół rozstał się ze swoim dotychczasowym wydawcą – Morbid Noizz – i podpisał kontrakt z firmą Metal Mind. Owocem tego był album – „Pośród Kwiatów i Cieni”, który udowadnia, że choć Artrosis nie ma zamiaru zjadać swojego ogona, to bez trudu można zidentyfikować tworzoną przez nich muzykę. Płyta nagrana w innym studio z innym realizatorem i z nowym gitarzystą niesie ze sobą nową jakość. Choć muzycznie jest zbliżona do debiutu, już od pierwszego przesłuchania można powiedzieć, że był to duży krok do przodu. Pomimo, że album jest bardzo dynamiczny i momentami również bardzo ostry nie można go określić mianem płyty metalowej.

Końcówka tysiąclecia to dla Artrosis przede wszystkim koncerty. Udana trasa z Anathemą, koncert w Programie Trzecim Polskiego Radia, Metalmania'2000, Castle Party'2000, koncert z Theatre of Tragedy itd. Artrosis dorobił się też pierwszego w historii zespołu zapisu koncertu na video „Live in Kraków”.



Nowe tysiąclecie to zaiste gotycki maraton – sześć płyt w pół roku! Po półtorarocznej przerwie Artrosis zafundował swoim fanom nie lada gratkę. Początek roku to pierwszy album koncertowy – „Koncert w Trójce”. Zarejestrowany podczas koncertu w Trójkowym studiu im. A.Osieckiej odkrywa Artrosis z nieco innej strony. Pojawiły się tam utwory „bez prądu” jak i specjalne wersje utworów. Ponadto sam repertuar zawiera wiele utworów, które nigdy na koncertach się nie pojawiły. Miesiąc później na rynek trafiły koleje płyty. Reedycje dwóch pierwszych płyt to perełka w dyskografii zespołu – nagrane od początku płyty brzmią o niebo lepiej niż „oryginały”. Największą niespodziankę kryją jednak bonusy. Po raz pierwszy Artrosis zdecydował się nagrać utwory z żywą perkusją.

Punktem kulminacyjnym jednak było wydanie czwartej płyty o nazwie „Fetish”. Zespół zdecydował się na odświeżenie swojego wizerunku. Choć „Ukryty Wymiar” stał się inspiracją dla wielu nowych gotycko-metalowych formacji muzycy postanowili nieco oddalić się od tego nurtu. Pojawiły się loopy, przestery i szumy. Chociaż zespół od początku cechowały staranie zaaranżowane instrumenty klawiszowe, na „Fetish” odegrały one dużo większą rolę. W efekcie czego, chociaż gitary zostały nieco cofnięte, muzyka nie utraciła swojej wagi. Również Medeah pokazała, że potrafi zaśpiewać zupełnie inaczej eksperymentując z motoryką i brzmieniem głosu. Na tej płycie pojawił się również pierwszy cover Artrosis – utwór „Mur” z repertuaru Pornografii.

W październiku 2002 roku światło dzienne ujrzało pierwsze wydawnictwo DVD zespołu – zapis video koncertu w Krakowie: „Live in Kraków – Among The Flowers And Shadows”. Na krążku znalazły się ponadto videoclipy, utwory audio, wywiady i inne dodatki.



Na początku listopada 2002 zespół wydał kolejną płytę, zatytułowaną „Melange”. Materiał zawarty na niej stanowi kontynuację koncepcji zapoczątkowanej płytą „Fetish”. Przynosi muzykę bardzo trudną w odbiorze, muzykę pogmatwaną, często powykręcaną w niezrozumiale frazy. Płyta utrzymana jest w mrocznym, czasami przepełnionym melancholią klimacie. W tak wyrafinowanym, chłodnym świecie nie może być już miejsca na róże, słońca, kwiaty i cienie. Teksty i wokale przeszły znaczącą metamorfozę. Medeah staje się coraz bardziej drapieżna, choć nie brakuje też bardziej zmysłowych, melodyjnych śpiewów.

W listopadzie zespół Artrosis odbył trasę „Dark Stars Festival 2002”, promującą najnowszy album. Podczas niej zagrał 8 koncertów z Moonlight, Fading Colours, Delight i Desdemoną. W składzie pojawiły się też pewne zmiany personalne: na gitarze zagrał MacKozer, a na basie Remo (obaj z Sacriversum).

Po ponad półrocznej przerwie spowodowanej macierzyństwem wokalistki, zespół wziął udział w festiwalu Castle Party 2003 w Bolkowie. Z powodu nieobecności etatowego gitarzysty, Artrosis (Medeah i Maciek) zagrało w składzie z trzema muzykami z zespołu Sacriversum. Koncert wspierali MacKozer i Mario na gitarach oraz Remo na basie. Tak więc po raz pierwszy w historii zespół wystąpił w pięcioosobowym składzie. Muzycy Sacriversum nadali nowego, ciężkiego, metalowego brzmienia kawałkom Artrosis.

Artrosis znów udowodnił, że kryje w sobie olbrzymi potencjał i w pełni zasługuje na pozycję którą osiągnął. Chociaż z płyty na płytę muzyka jest nieco inna to jest w niej coś charakterystycznego i zarezerwowanego tylko dla jednego zespołu.

2 października 2006 miała miejsce premiera kolejnego dzieła Artrosis – „Con Trust”. Jak mówi Medeah – wokalistka zespołu – „To najbardziej rockowa nasza płyta. Wierzę że materiał ten świetnie sprawdzi się na żywo. Serdecznie zapraszam na nasze koncerty wszystkich tych, którzy ciekawi są ewolucji zespołu, jaka zaszła przez cztery lata pozornego milczenia”. Wydawnictwo promowała trasa koncertowa zatytułowana CON TRUST TOUR.

"Con Trust" powstał z nowym składem i w końcu z żywą perkusją. Płyta przyniosła 10 nowych kawałków. Jest to powrót do korzeni. Ciężkie rockowe gitary ale zdarzają się też delikatne ballady. Do płyty nakręcono dwa teledyski. Do ostrej piosenki "Tym dla mnie jest" i do ballady "W półśnie"

Niepokojące kompozycje, wzbogacone niesamowitym głosem Medeah przywodzą na myśl odległy czas, odległe miejsce gdzie słowa jak miłość, rozpacz czy samotność miały inne znaczenie niż dzisiaj. Prawdziwa uczta dla gotyckich maniaków o otwartych umysłach.

Na początku 2011 roku nastąpił rozłam w zespole a Artrosis znowu nagrywa w najsilniejszym składzie. Po ośmiu latach powrócił klawiszowiec Maciej Niedzielski. To doskonała wiadomość dla fanów pamiętających "Melange", "Pośród kwiatów i Cieni" czy nominowanego do Fryderyków "Fetish" uważanego za szczytowe osiągnięcie grupy. Najnowsza płyta "Imago" ukaże się 7 listopada 2011.

The band comes from Zielona Gora, Poland, where it was set up in March 1995. At first their tone was based on heavy guitar riffs, but yet their music has never been typically rock or metal. Attaching a great importance to keyboards and instruments with a characteristic electronic percussion, the band has mostly identified itself with the gothic trend. In 1996, when the band made debut on the biggest polish show of independent music, Castle Party , nobody doubted it would soon play an important part on this stage. Although it was only the band’s first big concert, the enthusiastic applause of the audience turned out to be a good omen for the future. In the course of time their music gained more power and evolved towards gothic metal, in effect exploding with freshness and charisma in 1997. In this way the debut album “Ukryty Wymiar” (“Hidden Dimension”) was born. No average record could receive such complimentary reviews as “Ukryty Wymiar” did. Even Tilo Wolff, the leader of a cult gothic formation Lacrimosa and the owner of the Hall Of Sermon company, found the charm of that record irresistible. He decided to produce the record outside Poland. In January 1998 “Hidden Dimension” appeared in the stores worldwide.

In November 1998, exactly one year after the debut, the next composition from Artrosis called “W Imie Nocy” (“In The Name Of The Night”) appeared. The heavy, but calm and atmospheric album showed another facet of the band. Artrosis proved that they are not a group which leans on auto-plagiarism, but quite the opposite: the artists open for new trends, still looking for a new tone.

The year 1999 had a particular significance for Artrosis. That year the group played for the first time in Poland’s biggest metal festival: Metalmania. Moreover, the band parted from their producer, Morbid Noizz, and signed a contract with the Metal Mind Productions company. As a result of their co-operation the album “Posrod Kwiatow i Cieni” (“Among Flowers And Shadows”) appeared and proved that the original music of Artrosis can be easily recognized. The album, recorded in a new studio with a new producer and guitarist, carried a new quality. Although the music is close to the debut, one can instantly notice that it is a big step forwards. In spite of its dynamism and several very strong parts, the record can’t be defined as a metal one.

The end of the millennium meant a lot of concerts for Artrosis: a successful tour with Anathema, a concert played on the Third Programme of Polish Radio, Metalmania ‘2000, Castel Party ‘2000, a concert with the Theatre of Tragedy etc. In addition, the band’s first video record, from the concert “Live in Krakow”, appeared.

Indeed, the new millennium was a gothic marathon – 6 records in half a year! After one and a half year of break Artrosis reappeared and tickled their fans. The year began with the fist concert album – “Koncert w Trojce” (“Concert on RadioThree”). Recorded during the concert on the Third Programme, it discovered another facet of Artrosis. The album included the unplugged versions and other special versions of the songs. Moreover, many songs that hadn’t been played on the concerts were included. A month later the next record appeared on the market. The revised editions of the first two recods constitute a pearl of great piece in the band’s discography. They sound much better than the original versions. Artrosis had decided to record songs with a vivid percussion for the first time.

The climax was reached with the forth record “Fetish”. The band decided to refresh their image. Although the “Hidden dimension” became an inspiration for many new gothicmetal groups, the band decided to stay in a slight distance from that trend. The keyboards, which had been very characteristic and scrupulously arranged from the very beginning, played an even greater role on the record “Fetish”. In result the music didn’t lose its significance, even though the guitars were slightly withdrawn. Medeah also showed that she can sing in a completely new way experimenting with the vocal motorics and tone. The record included also a cover of the song “Mur” (“Wall”) from Pornografia’s repertoire.

In October 2002 the first DVD edition from Artrosis appeared. It was a video record of the concert in Krakow: “Live in Krakow – Among The Flowers And Shadows”. There were also video clips, audio songs, interviews and other additions.

In the beginning of November 2002 the band made the next record “Melange”. It was a continuation of the conception initiated with the record “Fetish”. It brought a kind of sophisticated, confused music with frequent obscure phrases. The record maintains a gloomy and at times melancholic atmosphere. There is no place for roses, sun, flowers and shadows in such a refined, cold world. Medeah became more agressive, though there is still place for sensual and melodious songs on the record.

In November Artrosis made a tour “Dark Stars Festival 2002”, which helped to promote the newest album. During that tour the band played eight concerts with Moonlight, Fading Colours, Delight and Desdemona. The band appeared with new bass (Remo) and guitar player (MacKozer)

After a half-year-break, caused by the vocalit’s motherhood, the band took part in a Castle Party 2003 festival in Bolkow. Because of the absence of the band’s guitarist, Artrosis (Medeah and Maciek) played with three musicians from the Sacriversum group: MacKozer and Mario (guitars) and Remo (bass). These musicians added a new, heavy tone to the songs of Artrosis and Remo and MacKozer are in the band till now. (written by Chance -artrosis.pl)

One month later band appeared on stage in the capital of Mexico - Mexico City as a co-headliner of 5th edition of “Festival Obscuro” playing together with Umbra Et Imago and Visions of Atlantis.

Next 2 years were rather idle, band appeared payed only a few concerts (in Warsaw, Lodz, Sulechow), being almost suspended, while the members of the band were trying to find a new quality and dimension of their music. Different attitude and ideas for the future of the band resulted in split and Maciej Niedzielski - one of the founders of the band - has left the band. Medeah together with Remo and MacKozer decided not to give up but to find new keyboard player and to extend the band by the live drums.

In spring 2005, in Lodz, band met on the rehearsal in the new - revolutionary - line up, together with Lukasz Migdalski -well known ex Aion keyboard player and the founder of Lebenssteuer, and Konrad Biczak (at that time the drummer of Sacriversum). After a few rehearsals band decided to test the new line up live on stage. It took place the same month on the two gigs together with leading Polish gothic rock band - Closterkeller. Both gigs were great, so in autumn the same year Artrosis together with Closterkeller went on Abracadabra Gothic Tour. During that tour band presented the first new songs from forthcoming album, and in the middle of the tour both bands united creating super-group called Clostosis (From both names Closterkeller and Artrosis).

Just before Abracadabra Gothic Tour band recorded at Migdal Mobile Studio a 4 songs demo, that aroused interest of Mystic Production, with whom Artrosis signed new record contract. New album “Con Trust” was recorded in the same Migdal Mobile Studio in Poznan, in summer 2006 and was released in Poland in October the same year. As usual, Artrosis surprised its fans with the new sound formula and new direction. Album was welcomed warmly and it still gets many enthusiastic reviews.

In the autumn 2006 band went on promotional Con Trust Tour, however, just a few days before the first gig an unexpected change in the line up took place. Konrad Biczak left the band and his place behind the drums has been taken by Pawel Swica (ex Lombard - one of the famous Polish rock bands from the nineteen eighties).

Nowadays, band is working on the new album and is preparing for the forthcoming gigs.
